Keep calm stay safe!

I decided to write about staying calm in these very unsure times. The world is in the grip of a global pandemic and we are caught in the middle. One can't help but become overwhelmed with all that is happening in the country and in the world. Just know that it's okay to feel scared, overwhelmed, angry, depressed etc. These are abnormal circumstances, and it calls for us to be extra careful about how we go about our daily lives.

Here are a few things that you can do to make your life a bit calmer:

1. Restrict what you consume on social media

Social media can provoke you on a normal day, but during these times everybody has an opinion and a lot of people are angry. Reduce your anxiety by staying off certain sites, or unfollowing and unfriending sensationalist accounts.

2. Focus on the task at hand

If you are studying, then focus on your schoolwork. If you are working, focus on getting your tasks done. Do not be distracted by doomsayers, they have their own things to do.

3. Stay safe

I cannot stress this enough, stay safe! Do not become complacent at the expense of your health, or that of your family. Wear your mask, wash your hands, social distance. But also, be vigilant when driving, practice self-care, take your vitamins, work safely. I know it sounds like a lot but it's important.

4. Create a calm space around yourself

I mean this literally and figuratively. Many of you will have to interact with family members (close and extended), as well as friends. This will be in your home or on the phone. It's important for you to stay calm and make sure that your family and friends understand that you will not be buying in to hype, rumours etc. Stay calm for your own sake as well as for your kids (if you have any). If you struggle... you know where to find me.

That was my two cents for this week. I hope it helped and again, if you are struggling feel free to reach out.

Until next time, stay safe!
