We have all been here: you're either looking to find a different job to the one you are in OR you are unemployed and you need to find employment. Both of these scenarios are frustrating and can lead to major negative feelings.
Today I want to share 3 ways that I have experienced over the years, in which you could find a job. Please take note that this is my personal experience and I'm sharing this because it might help someone else. I'm a firm believer in serving my network and this is how I do it. So, let's jump right in!
1. The Traditional Way
This is where you send your CV to different companies for a specific vacancy. You can also apply on job sites e.g P.Net, LinkedIn, Careers24, Indeed. On these sites you search for a certain job with criteria that you choose. The important thing here is that your CV needs to be on point. It is very important that your CV is able to pass through the ATS (Applicant Tracking System)! The traditional way of applying for a job may lead to a bit of frustration because sometimes you will go weeks or months without hearing back from the company. Don't let this get you down, continue your job search regardless.
2. A Recruiter Finds You
This is when a recruiter finds your CV or profile online and contacts you for a specific job. The important thing here is that you have to be findable!! I don't know if "findable" is an actual word but you understand what I am saying. If a recruiter can't find your CV or profile, then you will not be contacted. Make sure that your CV is up to date on all the sites that you are looking for jobs, and also make sure that your LinkedIn profile is informative and contains the right keywords to make you findable. I have found that recruiters (at least the ones I've worked with) are quite good with communication between the company and the candidate. This means less frustration and more closure, whether you get the job or not.
3. You Are Recommended (word of mouth)
This is when you are recommended by someone who knows you and you are called to send your CV for a job. This is the most underrated way to get a job because people don't like putting their authentic selves out there. Why? Because you actually have to network, AND you have to have proven that you have potential. Do not underestimate the power of LinkedIn here. LinkedIn probably has the largest amount of professionals across different industries, in the same place. The possibilities are endless! The important thing is that you put yourself out there by liking, commenting, and sharing posts. You can also post your own ideas/content and tag someone. Having a solid work ethic and good relationships at your current workplace will go a long way too.
All of the above require you to have an updated, easily readable CV and you will have to go through an interview too. There is never a guarantee that you will get a specific job but this should not hinder your job search. If you have been doing the same thing over and over, and it's not working, then try something different for a change. Your mindset is key! If you believe that you are going to be rejected, then it will happen like that. Remain grateful for what you have and serve your network. The job will come.
